Messiah 101 Classes

A four part class: (in two Sessions)

Part 1:
Our Background: Who we are, where we have been, what we belong to, where we are going.

Part 2:
Our Blueprint: What is our plan for being the Lord's Church here in Redwood City.

Part 3:
Our Basics: What are the ideas, values and beliefs that make Messiah, Messiah?

Part 4:
Our Being and Belonging: What does it mean to make the commitment to being a part of this family of faith? What can I expect of Messiah and what does the Messiah Family expect of me?

Part 5:
This final session is "Orientation Night" and it's basically a party so that we all can get to know one another and eat some really great food!

  

Messiah Lutheran Church is eager to welcome new Disciples of all ages into its fellowship. Membership is open to all who share our faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, who desire to share in the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion and in service to others.

We desire to fellowship with other Christians who seek a deep, meaningful relationship with God - the one who created us, redeemed us with His Son and continues to bless us through the presence of the Holy Spirit. Together, the people of Messiah seek share the unconditional love of God in worship, witness, and welcome wherever God has called us to be.

At Messiah we do not stress the word "membership" as a title because of the exclusive nature of the term. Rather, we stress the importance of becoming a disciple (follower) of Jesus and interpreting the entirety of our lives by our commitment to becoming disciples of Jesus. It's not about "membership" rather it's about a relationship with God and your brothers and sisters at this community of faith . Centered around worship -- our life together is a mutually shared experience. We love to socialize, have fun, learn, share, discuss, and be a family. You will find a place for yourself in our midst.

To take the next step in discovering a deeper relationship with the people of Messiah, call the church office@ 650.369.5201 and schedule a time to talk with Pastor O'Berg about your desire to become a part of this gathering. Following that, all that you need to do is plan to attend an “Introduction to Messiah” session conducted by our Pastor and our welcoming reception. Complete a “Getting To Know You” form and a “Time and Talents Opportunities” form.

A simple ritual receiving persons into membership is held twice each year. Persons desiring to be baptized are invited to arrange this with Pastor Mike O'Berg. New Disciples are assigned a sponsor whose role is to welcome and orient new members and assist them in becoming fully participating members of the Messiah family.

We rely on the full inclusion of all those who count themselves as a part of the faith community known as Messiah. The ministry of the church is the ministry of the people in total. We believe that God has placed each one of us here for a special, specific purpose and with a mission. Part of the importance of the gathered community is in how we all assist one another in discovering our individual purpose in the Kingdom of God

We strongly encourage all people to put the gifts that God has given them (time, talent, treasure) to their fullest use, by using those gifts in the church for the growth and expansion of the Kingdom of God.
